5 Questions with an EB Advocate: Leslie Rader

Here is the newest installment of our series where we spotlight a person who, like the MPCS EB Advocate team, strives to help people who have Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) lead healthier lives.

Name: Leslie Rader

Profession: Chair Emeritus, Debra of America and Clinical Resource Manager, Hollister Incorporated

Home State: Kentucky

Something Unique about Yourself: I enjoy working in my yard and time with my family.

1. How did you first become aware of Epidermolysis Bullosa?

My daughter, Lauren, was born in July 26, 2004.

 2. How do you advocate for the EB community?

Shortly after Lauren passed away, I joined the board of directors of Debra and started the New Family Advocate Program. That program was created to offer support to new parents of children with EB.

 3. Which fact about EB do you share most often?

Everything is trial and error. What works for one family may not work for you or your child. There are several options of wound care dressings. You should try them all and see what works best for you.

 4. What do you want people to do after you tell them about EB?

Donate your time, talents, connections, resources and money. The more others know about EB the better!

 5. What motivates you to accomplish your goals?

My daughter would have been 13 today. She is my motivation. Any help I can give others helps me feel closer to Lauren and that fills my heart.
